With a plan to boost solar energy use, the NDMC will now add the mandate for the installation of solar power plants in buildings in relation to approving building plans.

NDMC Vice Kurjeet Singh Chahal confirmed this decision to extend the application of renewable energy installation within the region.

This means those that apply for approval on modifications or renovation of buildings will be expected to include such provisions in their plans.

Chahal pointed out that part of the broader initiative to push adoption of solar energy within the NDMC jurisdiction. The development is expected to help in achieving sustainability goals for the region while being in tune with national efforts to employ cleaner energy sources.

Besides, the council discussed the solar energy requirement with a hassle-free new plan to provide 9,000 new connections to water supply in New Delhi within 34 clusters, estimated to benefit 47,000 people. This task is expected to complete in 5 -6 months, targeting water accessibility in the city.

Delhi PWD Minister Parvesh Verma, who recently took the oath as a member in the NDMC, also announced other important plans during the meeting like an anti-encroachment drive and a plan for 100% CCTV coverage in the NDMC area. Verma also directed officials to prepare a summer action plan to tackle any waterlogging and called for the purchase of low-cost electricity.

The meeting also approved changes to the recruitment rules of different posts, including Public Relation cadre, as part of streamlining its operations and workforce. The Council reiterated its commitment to a clean green environment and better public amenity for the region.
